Jennifer Nyhan, LMFT

Jennifer Nyhan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (132408) dedicated to helping clients through life’s most difficult transitions. With her expertise in grief and loss, Jennifer supports those facing the loss of a loved one, helping them find hope and meaning that may often seem unattainable. Jennifer’s grief work extends far beyond just the physical aspect, including the needs we all face at transitional times in our lives. She advocates for individuals braving a myriad of losses, including identity, relationships, health, purpose, and meaning in life. She helps her clients access their strengths, resilience, and coping skills needed to get through their complex challenges with hope. The inability to start a family is an enormous loss that few are prepared for when diagnosed with infertility. Jennifer helps couples and families navigate the sadness, stigma, anxiety, and physical stress that often accompanies reproductive challenges. Jennifer has worked within the community, offering grief support and education at schools, businesses, hospitals, and nonprofits.

My Own Transitions

Before I found my calling as a therapist, I had a corporate career that, over time, I no longer found fulfilling. I was resistant to change and felt stuck. My own grief was what finally gave me the courage to follow my heart and do this work that I believe I am meant to do. I find meaning and joy in helping others find a path to healing after loss or discover the confidence and courage to embrace difficult transitions in their lives. I know change can be terrifying, but it is also incredibly rewarding.

Training

I earned my bachelor’s degree at UCLA and my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, specializing in Trauma. My training included working within a psychiatric unit at Adventist Health Glendale Medical Center, where I gained invaluable experience as part of an integrated medical team treating patients with a broad spectrum of mental illnesses. I counseled patients’ families to educate them and help process and support their loved ones’ mental health diagnoses. My hospital experience continues to be instrumental in my practice as I treat depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide risk.
